Oh, he doesn’t seem interested.

See, this is how I would do it. I like sailing, but if he likes airplanes. He flies a Pilatus PC -12, right? I’d start with, “It’s great. I don’t’ now how to fly, but I do know now to navigate. I sailed across the Atlantic on a 49 ft sailboat, shorter than the 53-foot wingspan of your plane. ” 

Now the story has something it do with him. He will look at his airplane’s wings and imagine the sailboat. And think you.
