WO-CORE – Zelda (Original Mix)

For the 3rd Edition of the Quadrivium EP series, Steyoyoke invites another selection of new artists to share their strongest original track.

Alberth begins the EP with “Zenith”, which starts with a masterful build in tension before falling away to lower frequencies that bounce around the soundscape. A master of restraint, the track is driven forward by subtle changes in bass line, which combines with echoing overtones to leave a lasting impression.
The second track, “Forms” by Rinzen, continues on the minimal theme, with a steady, pared-back mood that shimmers upon the appearance of delicate percussion and synths.
The EP continues with WO – CORE’s “Zelda” – which immediately grabs attention with distorted vocals and a dive into a darker mood. The deeper, more intense point of the EP, this track combines a huge diversity of instruments and effects to a masterful level, keeping a listener always surprised but never overwhelmed.
Senses Of Mind close out the EP with the track “Alanya”, bringing a distinct and contagious energy with unique percussive layers, and hypnotic vocal loops.

This is an impressive showcase of new artists, covering a diverse range of approaches to the techno genre within just four tracks. It makes for a compelling listen and suggests there is a lot more to come from each of these talented producers.

Modeplex – Jupiter (Original Mix)

German producer Modeplex makes a strong entrance on Steyoyoke with his EP “Kronos Pearl”, a determined and refined 3-track release.

The first track, “Jupiter”, wastes no time establishing the tone, pairing a heavy bassline with distinctive overlaid melodies. It’s versatile, compelling, and makes claim to a place in any techno set.

The title track, “Kronos Pearl”, is a darker piece, combining heavy synths with more experimental sound effects. Driven forward by variations on a common melodic theme, the track fluctuates its focus between higher and lower elements before leading us steadily on to the next track in the EP.

“Hourglass” shows another, more experimental side to the producer – the track follows a pattern of sections that have a layered build and release, falling away to quieter, pared-back interludes. It makes great use of the shifting of moods over time, as each section adds something new whilst pushing and stretching themes that have gone before.

This is an impressive debut on Steyoyoke for Modeplex, showing their versatility not only musically but conceptually. These tracks are strong pieces in their own right, and together show that there is a lot more to come from this producer.

Different Ray — Colorful Night (Original Mix)

Adistant cousin of the shark, Stingrays and other rays like skates, electric rays, guitarfishes and sawfishes are classified as Batoidea, a type of cartilaginous fish and have around 500 described species in thirteen families. They are pretty widespread and can be found in seas on the floor, across the world in both temperate and cold-water. The manta is an exception living in open waters and a few fresh water species living in brackish bays and estuaries.

Types of RaysMost species of rays have flat bodies that facilitate them to effectively conceal themselves in their environment which is the sea bed. Their disc like shape (in most ray species) have five ventral slot-like body openings called gill slits that lead from the gills and their mouths on the undersides.Because their eyes are on top of their bodies they cannot see their prey and use smell and electro-receptors similar to those of sharks.

These docile creatures are often misunderstood and categorized as dangerous which is not really the case. While they do posses stings they generally do not attack aggressively and if threatened, their primary reaction is to swim away. However, a defensive reaction causes it to whip up their stinger which is often the case when attacked by predators or stepped on. Even then, if stung by a stingray it is rarely fatal and if stung in the lower limb region will most likely just be a cut causing pain, swelling and muscle cramps from the venom, or even an infection unless it hits the upper body, a major artery or causes a very deep puncture.

Manta Rays
The largest of all ray species, the manta is part of the eagle ray family. Found throughout tropical waters of the world, typically around coral reefs, the manta ray can grow to a width of 7.6 meters (25 ft) across and weight about 2,300 kilograms (5,100 lb)!

Their huge size however, doesn’t in anyway affect their mobility and these giant creatures are gracefully agile underwater. Mantas are filter feeders living off plankton, fish larvae and the like frequent cleaning stations where small fish such as wrasse, remora and angelfish swim in the manta’s gills and over its skin it of parasites and dead tissue. As a diver to spot one of these magnificent creatures is often described as an experience of a lifetime and The Manta Ray Night Dive in Kailua Kona, Hawaii rated among the Top 10 Dive Sites of the World is the ultimate Manta Ray experience.
