James Monro – Voyager (CJ Art Remix) [Yin]

Tripp Baronner’s Yin imprint begins the new year by inviting CJ Art to re-imagine James Monro’s ‘Voyager’. Having previously showcased new editions of ‘Rapture’ and ‘Modular’, the US imprint now re-visit’s the UK artist’s 2017 ‘Into The Ether’ album once again with much anticipation.

Hailing from Poland and heading up the Deepersense imprint CJ Art would have to be considered a veteran of the progressive house underground. His darker, almost psychedelic sound remains a favourite of both old and new fans of genre, while leading him to releases on John OO Fleming’s JOOF Recordings, Bonzai, Droid9 and IONO Black. Now returning to Yin for his second appearance, CJ provides an inspired take on ‘Voyager’. Drawing on the sensibilities of the original the Warsaw resident leans in a psy-progressive direction, with a reworked groove and rippling rhythmic core. Mind bending effects converge with waves of white noise, while processed vocals and piercing stabs fully saturate your senses. The vocal narrative highlights a tense break, elevating mood and anticipation, before perfectly shifting energy into a devilish drop and exhilarating final act. A powerful remix from CJ which gets 2020 off to a great start for both himself and Tripp Baronner’s Yin imprint. Highly recommended.
